Windows Troubleshooter

Some Windows programs can be fixed using the Windows Troubleshooter. To use this:
  • Open the search bar, and type Troubleshooting
  • Click on Troubleshooting (Control Panel)
  • Troubleshooting window will open:
    • Click on View All
    • A list of all items with troubleshooters will appear
    • Double click on the item that you want to troubleshoot
    • Follow the instructions

How to make Windows 10 File Explorer open This PC (rather than Quick Access) by Default


  • Open Windows 10 File Explorer
  • Select the View tab
  • Click on Options
  • The Folder Options window will open:
    • Select the General tab
    • Select This PC for Open File Explorer to
    • Press the OK button

Enable New Mail Notification


  • First we need to update system settings:
    • Click on the Settings icon in the windows start menu
    • The Settings window will open
      • Click on System
      • Select Notifications & actions on the left
      • Scroll down to Show notifications from these apps
      • Click on Mail
      • Set all items to On:
      • Press the back arrow
      • Ensure that Mail is set to On
      • Close the Settings window
  • Next we need to update Mail App settings:
    • Start the Windows 10 Mail App
    • Click on the Settings icon (bottom right of the left column)
    • Click on Options on the right
    • Scroll down to Notifications
      • Set Show in action centre to On
      • Check the Show a notification banner and Play a sound items

AMD Quick Stream Error: The License Information To Use This Software is not Found

You might get an AMD Quick Stream Error on restart after a Windows 10 install:

AMD Quick Stream Error: The License Information To Use This Software is not Found

If this happens, download and reinstall AMD Quick Stream from http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMDQuickStreamTechnology.aspx (use the Download AMD Quick Stream Technology link).

How to fix No Sound on Windows 10 issue

After installing Windows 10, you might find that the sound is not working! To fix this:

  • Right click on the sound icon in the taskbar (bottom right), and click on Playback devices in the menu that appears
  • Double click on the current playback device (usually Speakers)
  • Select the Advanced tab
  • Change the Default Format to 24 bit, 192000 Hz (Studio Quality)*
  • Press the OK button
* Apparently 24 bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality) also works in some cases, but only 24 bit, 192000 Hz (Studio Quality) worked for me!

  • Click on the WiFi icon in the taskbar:
      
  • Click on Network Settings
  • Select WiFi on the left
  • Scroll down, and click on Manage WiFi Settings

Disable Bing Search in Windows 10's Start Menu

Windows 10 defaults to showing Bing search results in the Start menu. To stop this:

  • Open the search bar, and type Cortana & Search Settings
  • Click on Cortana & Search Settings 
  • Disable Cortana by setting the first toggle to Off
  • Set the toggle under Search online and include web results to Off
